What Comes to Mind When You Hear the Term 'Healing'?
Do you think to yourself: “I can’t heal on my own, I need doctors to tell me what I need to be well” If so, you’re not alone. But I’m here to tell you something:
- Take a leisurely walk in nature, meditate, or pray.
- Get a deep tissue massage, or drop into a hot bath that is infused with essential oils.
- Spend time in the company of a cherished friend or a beloved pet.
- Prepare and eat a healthy meal, or drink a cup of medicinal herb tea.
- Listen to, or play, music that resonates with you.
- Dream and express yourself creatively.
- Hear the stories of others who have walked in your shoes or experienced similar life lessons.
- Learn in a way that invites your heart and soul into the learning process.
You and your family practice self-healing every time you…
To be clear, self-healing doesn’t mean you never seek answers about your health (or your child’s health) from a doctor or a psychologist. It simply means that you have the ability to cultivate well-being when you get to know what your body, mind, heart and soul need from you to be well. It means you have the ability to cultivate well-being when you get to know what plants, insects, animals, and ecosystems need from you to be well.
What Self-Healing Really Means
You were born with eco-intelligence, the intelligence that guides you to be aware of the needs of your body and the earth, and to make lifestyle choices that protect, nurture, and sustain their health and interdependence. But your (and your family’s) social conditioning, coupled with the pressures that society has placed on you to adhere to the status quo, and to function primarily as a consumer versus a restorer, has allowed you to slowly, unconsciously, disengage with it.
You Were Born with Eco-Intelligence: Are You Engaged with It?
Trauma, it should be said, is often the result of disengaging with your eco-intelligence. In fact, studies relating to trauma show us that chronic stressors affecting our children, such as nature deficit, hyper consumerism, and the stress of growing up in our fast-paced, screen-saturated world, not to mention bullying, and the pressure to perform, can give rise to trauma. These experiences aren’t just “emotional”; they shape a child’s nervous system, brain development, immunity, and even their risk for chronic illness later in life.
Trauma is Often the Result of Disengaging with Your Eco-Intelligence
The good news? The nervous system can heal. When we give kids (and ourselves) the tools to regulate and restore, the trajectory of our health changes. Eco-intelligent living is a balanced way of living that honors both your body and the earth that you are an integral part of. It entails living mindful of not only what you eat, drink, and medicate with, but how you think, and essentially, how you care for and nurture the relationships that make you whole. It’s living mindful of how you communicate with your body and all of the living things that exist to enrich your experience of life.
Are You Ready to Commit, to Living the Eco-Intelligent Way?
Your life, and the life of those you care about is precious, and I want you to be well enough to live it! It’s time for change, for you to learn what you were always meant to know about how to spare yourself and your family from the things that threaten to rob your health and happiness.
